Rugby roundup: Battle Ground, Union teams win

Boys

Lincoln 26, Prairie Wolf Pack 12 — Lincoln built a 19-0 halftime lead then held off a Prairie rally in the match at Lents Park in Portland. Prairie (2-2) scored the first 12 points of the second half before Lincoln sealed the win with a try and conversion against the run of play.

Trace Maier and Logan Jacques had strong games, according to Prairie coach John Fletcher.

Prairie plays the Portland Pumas at 3:15 on April 25 at Palisades Elementary School in Lake Oswego.

Battle Ground 29, Lakeridge 28 — Battle Ground rallied for its first win of the season on Saturday at Laurin Middle School, outscoring Lakeridge 19-0 over the final 15 minutes of the match. Leading the way were Jonathon Bryant, Tosh Young and Caleb Johnson, according to coach Brett Major.

Battle Ground (1-4) visits Summit High (0-6) in Bend, Ore., at 12:30 p.m. on April 25.

Union 35, Oregon City 0 — Union improved to 7-0 in the Rugby Oregon Varsity Premiership on Saturday by handing a second loss to Oregon City at Lents Park. Details were not reported.

Union is slated to visit Canby for a 1 p.m. match on April 25.

Girls

The Battle Ground Lady Pack won a pair of games in round-robin competition on Saturday in Albany, Ore. Battle Ground beat Linn-Benton 35-0 and South Metro Renegades 27-0.

Kelsi Heyer was named player of the match for the Linn-Benton match.

Holland Derby led the team in scoring and Marisa Griffs and Hannah Foster led the defensive effort.

Battle Ground next hosts Canby at 11 a.m. on April 25 at Laurin Middle School.
