Amid throngs of people enjoying the sunshine, more than 50 volunteers converged upon Esther Short Park on Saturday to prune bushes, uproot weeds and spread mulch. The cleanup effort was organized by Hiedi Lee and Dan Mitchell, a couple who live in Parkview at Vancouvercenter, next to Esther Short, and work across from the park. The couple adopted the park through the Vancouver’s Adopt-A-Park program, but also implored surrounding residents and businesses to help keep the green space beautified throughout the year. “We want people to have pride in it, to have ownership of it,” Lee said.
