A man followed and assaulted a woman who was jogging on the Burnt Bridge Creek Trail in Vancouver on Wednesday morning.

The 31-year-old woman began her jog around 6:55 a.m. from the trailhead near the Thunderbird Village Apartments on East 18th Street, where she noticed a man in the parking lot, said Vancouver Police Department spokeswoman Kim Kapp.

While jogging east on the trail, the woman had an uneasy feeling and turned off the music she was listening to. She then heard footsteps behind her and turned around to see the man from earlier. He grabbed her right arm and tried to put his feet under hers in an attempt to pull her off the trail, Kapp said. The victim ran away and eventually reached a spot where she could call 911 to report the assault.

The suspect was described as a very pale man in his mid to late 20s with short brown hair and freckles on his face, Kapp said. He was wearing a navy blue hooded sweatshirt with a black jacket over it, along with dark, baggy pants and athletic shoes.

Police were unable to locate the suspect in the area.
