Central Vancouver — The Colorado Christian University Wind Ensemble and Jazz Band performed a free concert at King’s Way Christian Schools on March 19, and before the concert, the college students led a workshop for King’s Christian band members. Marge Swearer, band director at King’s Way, thought it was the first time King’s Way has hosted such an event, and welcomed a college band in to teach the younger students. “CCU Band Director, Professor Mark Dorn, is both a talented musician and a gifted teacher,” Swearer said in an email. “During the afternoon clinic, he provided a great balance of critique and encouragement to our developing band students.” At the concert, the King’s Way band also performed a song from an upcoming competition, and one song along with the Colorado Christian band. The Colorado Christian band members also stayed with local families, as Swearer said more than 50 King’s Way families hosted college students.
