College notebook: Concordia’s Alamillo medalist at OIT event

Battle Ground grad claims first career collegiate title

Concordia University senior Madison Alamillo claimed medalist honors at the Oregon Tech Invitational golf tournament held Sunday through Tuesday at the Running Y Ranch near Klamath Falls, Ore.

The Battle Ground High School graduate expanded on her one-stroke lead over teammate Abby Brennan going into the final round, posting a six-stroke victory for her first collegiate medalist honor.

Alamillo shot 74-77-79 for a 14-over 230 total, with Brennan finishing at 236.

Concordia swept the top three spots and had all five scoring golfers among the top 10, winning its 15th consecutive Cascade Collegiate Conference tournament.

Also for the Cavaliers, Hockinson High School graduate Kelsey Whiles shots 83-81-82—246 to place 10th at 30 over par.

Portland has won six consecutive CCC team championships.

Golf: Bartek leads Sac State in Pullman tournament

Sacramento State sophomore Chloe Bartek returned to her native Pacific Northwest this week and led the Hornets with a 12th-place finish at Washington State’s Cougar Cup golf tournament in Pullman.

The Columbia River High School graduate was tied for 10th place going into the final round at Palouse Ridge Golf Club, at 1-over par 145 after shooting 73-72 in the first two rounds.

She closed with a 78 as the Hornets placed seventh in the nine-team tournament won by the host Cougars.

Bartek’s scores in the first two rounds marked the second and third lowest of her collegiate career.

Bartek started her final round with a birdie on the par-3 fourth hole. Over the next 14 holes, she had eight pars, five bogeys and a double bogey to stand at 6-over. Bartek earned one of the strokes back with a birdie on the par-4 first before ending with a bogey on No. 3.

Cross Country: UP’s Tompkins helps Pilots claim meet title

University of Portland sophomore Lindsay Tompkins placed 13th to help the Pilots claim the title at the Big Sky Triangular Cross Country Meet on Saturday at Pier Park in Portland.

The Prairie High School graduate ran the 5-kilometer (3.1-mile) course in 18 minutes, 45 seconds.

Portland raced against host Portland State, Eastern Washington and Idaho, winning the overall title and also beating each of the other three teams in head-to-head scoring.

“The team ran great and showed a lot of toughness the last mile to get up for the win,” UP coach Ian Solof told the website portlandpilots.com.
