High School fall sports athlete of the week

Bella Caughie of Union girls soccer was voted The Columbian’s high school fall sports athlete of the week, sponsored by Athletes Corner, for the week ending Sept. 21.

Caughie collected 48 percent of the 674 votes cast by fans to beat out Colleen Woods of Heritage swimming, who had 32 percent.

Caughie, a defender, led the backline defense for the Titans as they opened 4A GSHL play with back-to-back shutouts over Mountain View and Skyview.

The other nominees were Austin Blankenship of Columbia River cross country, Colton Reed of Mountain View tennis and Kari Staples of King’s Way Christian volleyball.

Nominees and the online ballot are posted at www.360preps.com each Monday and voting continues until 8 p.m. Thursday.

Athletes may be elected player of the week once during the regular season, and no athlete can be nominated for the honor in consecutive weeks.
