A woman accidentally shot herself in the foot early Thursday morning in Ridgefield.

The woman, described as a woman in her 40s, thought she heard something suspicious in her yard or house at about 4 a.m. and armed herself with a shotgun, Clark County Fire & Rescue spokesman Tim Dawdy said.

As she was investigating, she was walking with the muzzle down and the gun discharged, injuring her foot, Dawdy said.

Ridgefield Police Department Lt. Roy Rhine said the woman was “in a process of looking out the window.”

“She probably had her finger on the trigger when she shouldn’t have,” he said.

Police and Fire Personnel were dispatched to the residence, 310 Mill St. in Ridgefield, at 4:14 a.m.

The woman was taken to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center. Her condition was not available.

Rhine said that there would likely not be any criminal charges in the case.
