Fire protection survey upgrades Fire District 3

The fire protection rating for Clark County Fire District 3 improved from Class 5 to Class 4. The Washington Surveying and Rating Bureau evaluated fire protection capabilities in the area as they relate to fire insurance.

“For a rural fire district, it’s a pretty excellent rating,” said fire Chief Steve Wrightson.

The rating bureau has been making the rounds to fire districts around Clark County, Wrightson said. Fire protection ratings go from 1 to 10, with 1 representing the best public protection. Public works, fire inspections and emergency response all contribute to the ratings. District 3’s Class 4 status becomes effective Feb. 1.

Residents and business owners in the rural areas of Hockinson and Battle Ground can expect some savings on their insurance premiums. Wrightson recommends that residents contact their insurance agents to learn about those possible rate changes.

While it’s been a couple of decades since the district has been rated, Wrightson said the rating bureau looks to more regularly evaluate fire districts.
