Camas — A Camas High School graduate spend part of her summer helping put smiles on impoverished children in Brazil. Melissa Williams, a standout basketball player at Eastern Washington University, traveled with 13 other college students to Goiania, Brazil, to be a part of Projeto Amar (Love Project), according to a university press release. While on the mission trip, she and the others visited slums to play with children, help clean homes, paint and perform other projects. They also put on a summer camp so kids could swim, build campfires, play soccer and take part in other activities. “It was truly a blessing to find time to spend with the amazing people who went on this trip and to see the impact we could make on the lives of children living in extreme poverty,” Williams said in the press release. “I would go back in a heartbeat.” Learn more about Projeto Amar at www.en.projeto-amar.org.
