David Pitonyak, an advocate for people with disabilities, will offer a free Wednesday training session to help everyone understand and support people with disabilities who also suffer post-traumatic stress disorder.
Pitonyak “specializes in finding new stories” for people with disabilities, according to Clark County’s Developmental Disabilities Program and its Department of Community Services, which are sponsoring the visit from Pitonyak, who is based in Virginia.
Trauma and healing “even in the aftermath of extraordinary suffering” in the lives of people with disabilities are the subjects of Pitonyak’s free session, set for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 24 in the sixth floor of the Clark County Public Service Center, 1300 W. Franklin St. No registration is required, and there’s space for 50 attendees.
The session is meant for anyone who’s interested, from professionals to family members, friends and the general public, according to program coordinator Kris Henriksen.
