The Camas-Washougal Fire Department will host its 14th annual open house Saturday, Sept. 27, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Grass Valley fire station, 4321 N.W. Parker St.

The day’s events will include kitchen fire simulations at 10:15 and 10:45 a.m.; vehicle extrication at 11 a.m.; Clark County Sheriff’s Office, Vancouver Police, and Washougal Police K-9 unit demonstrations at 11:30 a.m.; LifeFlight helicopter landing at noon (weather permitting); and house fire simulation with sprinkler demonstration at 12:55 p.m.

New to the open house this year will be an emergency preparedness cook-off.

According to Fire Marshal Ron Schumacher, in recognition of September being Emergency Preparedness Month, three CWFD teams will compete to create the best meal out of ingredients that will include water and dried, prepackaged food — all items that would be part of a 72-hour emergency kit. Judging, which begins at 1:30 p.m., will be conducted by Camas Mayor Scott Higgins and Washougal Mayor Sean Guard. Available throughout the day will be CPR information and practice, fire engine displays and explanations, and the CWFD Fire Marshal’s Office will provide fire prevention education.

Organizations with representatives on hand providing health and safety displays and information will include Clark Regional Emergency Services Agency, Fort Vancouver Power Squadron, Southwest Washington Agency on Aging, Vancouver Vision Clinic of Camas, Southwest Washington Organization of Rescue Divers and the Trauma Intervention Program. In addition, members of the PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center trauma department will be properly fitting bicycle helmets and have helmets for sale.
