Input sought on new Ridgefield wildlife refuge bridge

Federal officials are looking for feedback from the community on a proposed new bridge over Lake River into the Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge.

The aging bridge at the River S Unit, where vehicles enter the refuge, is considered deficient, and a replacement would address concerns about mobility and safety. As it stands, the single-lane bridge leads to steep gravel road at a railroad crossing, posing potential safety hazards for emergency vehicles.

Before moving forward with a replacement, the Western Federal Lands Highway Division of the Federal Highway Administration is seeking comments from the public on the potential project. Comments should be sent by Friday to Steve Morrow, an environmental protection specialist working with the agency.

Morrow can be reached at stephen.morrow@dot.us.
