The Fort Vancouver defense deserved better.

Two turnovers led to White Salmon’s two touchdowns in a 13-3 non-league win at Kiggins Bowl.

The Trappers were shutting out White Salmon in the third quarter, limiting the visiting Bruins to just three first downs.

Leading 3-0, the Trapper defense produced another three-and-out for White Salmon with about five minutes left in the the third quarter.

Then the Bruins punted the ball to the Trapper 1-yard line.

On Fort’s next play from scrimmage, the Trappers fumbled, and Noah Carmichael returned the fumble five yards for a touchdown. White Salmon had a 6-3 lead it would not relinquish.

The Trapper defense produced two more three-and-outs by White Salmon on their next two possessions. But another Trapper fumble gave White Salmon the ball on the Fort 33.

After a penalty, White Salmon quarterback Tanner Rabinowitz broke free on a 37-yard touchdown run for a 13-3 lead.

Rabinowitz finished with 68 yards rushing on 16 carries and passed for 55 yards. White Salmon gained 169 yards of offense and nine first downs. Of that total 49 yards and four first downs were gained on the Bruins’ final possession as they ran out the clock on a weary Fort defense.

D.J. Owens rushed for 35 yards and Jordan Suell passed for 79 as the Trappers gained only 189 yards of offense. Jorge Regalado’s 22-yard field goal in the third quarter accounted for the Trappers’ only points.
