Three things to watch this week

NO. 1: LEAGUE PLAY BEGINS — The Class 4A and 2A Greater St. Helens Leagues, both of which have seven teams, open league play this week. And even though the 3A GSHL only has four teams, Prairie faces Kelso in a league game this week.

NO. 2: STOUT DEFENSES — Several teams head into Week 3-0 with 2-0 records. But only two defenses are perfect. Columbia River has two shutouts to its record: 32-0 over R.A. Long and 35-0 over Mark Morris. The Chieftains travel to play Centralia on Friday. Also, Woodland had pitched two shutouts: 50-0 over Kalama and 44-0 over La Center. Woodland hosts Hudson’s Bay in its return game to the 2A Greater St. Helens League. And, while we’re at it, we should mention Heritage. The Timberwolves shut out Prairie 24-0 and beat Hudson’s Bay 50-7, with the only Bay touchdown coming on an interception return. So Heritage’s defense has not allowed a point.

NO. 3: GOOD HARBINGER — If any Camas fan wants a good sign for the Papermakers’ first road game of the year at Rogers of Puyallup, here it is: Camas beat Federal Way 49-6, Federal Way beat Tahoma on Thursday 58-17; Tahoma beat Rogers last week 48-41.
