The Washougal School District will hold several public forums on long-term planning this fall to gather feedback about student safety, enrollment growth and facilities capacity.
In each of the last three years, the district has grown by 70 students on average, and several buildings operate beyond capacity. To accommodate increasing enrollment, the district has added a number of portable classrooms in recent years, but administrators say many of them have become outdated.
The forums come as the district prepares to make recommendations to the Long Range Facilities Planning Committee, an 18-member board of district staff, school board members, Washougal residents and others with planning expertise. The committee completed a study last year, concluding that safety and security improvements should be the district’s top priorities as enrollment continues to grow.
Here is a schedule of the forums:
• 6:30 p.m. Sept. 24 at Washougal High School.
• 6:30 p.m. Oct. 13 at Cape Horn-Skye Elementary School.
