An adaptive tricycle stolen from the home of a Vancouver boy with special needs was found damaged today by a passer-by.

Someone brought the red Rifton specialized tricycle to the Vancouver Police Department’s west precinct and said they found it in the area of Northeast Stapleton Road and state Highway 500. Police returned the tricycle to its owners.

Damage to the recovered tricycle was so severe that the 10-year-old boy who owned it could no longer ride it, the boy’s parents told police.

The tricycle, which had been donated to the family by Shriners Hospital for Children, was stolen from the front porch of their home in the VanMall neighborhood last week.

According to the Rifton website, a new tricycle costs at least $1,400 depending on how many accessories are added.
