Touchmark offers free balance assessments

Touchmark Health & Fitness Club is offering free balance assessments and other activities in honor of Falls Prevention Awareness Day on Tuesday, Sept. 23.

Fall Prevention Awareness Day focuses on preventing fall-related injuries among older adults. According to the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, 33 to 50 percent of people over age 65 fall each year.

Touchmark is offering four hours of free activities and assessments Sept. 23 at the club, 2927 S.E. Village Loop:

  • 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.: NeuroCom Balance Master demonstrations and single-test assessments.

  • 10 a.m. to noon: Licensed physical therapists perform fall-risk assessments.

  • 11 a.m.: SAIL (Stay Active and Independent for Life) class demo.

  • Noon: Fall recovery class.
