The Washington School for the Deaf will celebrate International Deaf Awareness Week, Sept. 21-27, with various activities.
A kick-off assembly begins at 8:15 a.m. in Lloyd Auditorium with state Rep. Jim Moeller, D-Vancouver, state Rep. Liz Pike, R-Camas, and Vancouver City Councilor Anne McEnerny-Ogle. Local members of the 2014 Professional Disc Golf Association will present disc golf equipment and a donation. Voice interpreters will be provided.
The movie “No Ordinary Hero: The SuperDeafy Movie” will be screened at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 24 and 7 p.m. Sept. 27 in Lloyd Auditorium. The movie stars John Maucere and Academy Award winner Marlee Matlin. The captioned movie is open to the public. Tickets are available at the door. Ages 3 and younger are free; ages 4-12 are $3; students 12 and older with student ID are $5; adults are $10; seniors 65 and older are $5.
