Week 2 prep football player of the week: Austen Johnson, Hockinson

Austen Johnson of Hockinson was voted The Columbian’s high school football player of the week, sponsored by Athletes Corner, for the week ending Sept. 13.

Johnson collected 34 percent of the 1,641 votes cast by fans to beat out Kalani Umiamaka of Heritage, who had 31 percent.

Johnson rushed for 117 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries and caught four passes for 69 yards in the Hawks’ win over Prairie.

The other nominees were Gunner Talkington of Battle Ground, Eli Whitmire of Woodland and Nathan Eggleston of Ridgefield.

Nominees and the online ballot are posted at www.360preps.com each Saturday and voting continues until 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Players may be elected player of the week once per month, and no player can be nominated for the honor in consecutive weeks.
