The Union boys golf team claimed the Titan Cup on Monday for the second year in a row, bringing their team titles to four over the six years of the Ryder Cup-style event at Camas Meadows.
Union defeated Columbia River 7½-2½ in singles match play after opening the day with a 3-2 win over Skyview in alternate shot play.
Among Union’s winners in the championship round was freshman Keith Lobis, who defeated River’s Spencer Long 2 and 1.
In the morning alternate shot matchup, Union’s Ben Gruher and Max Dobak had birdies on the last hole to seal a 1 up victories in their matches.
Union’s Carson Brucher chipped in for eagle on No. 7 at to break a deadlock with Jason Anderson as he and Eddie Abellar went on to beat Anderson and Connor Hinthorn 4 and 2.
Columbia River advanced with a 3-2 win over Camas in the morning round. Reed Guernsey won both his matches on the day for the Chieftains.
Camas defeated Skyview 6½-3½ in the consolation match. Brian Humphries and Levi Holscher won both their matches for the Papermakers.
Zach Paros was a double winner on the day for Skyview.
Stars of the day
• Jonah Benavente and Luis Figueroa-Valencia, Fort Vancouver tennis, won Fort’s first varsity match of the season at No. 1 doubles against Washougal.
• Jonathan Ho, Camas tennis, came from a set down to win a three-set match at No. 1 singles against Skyview.
• Owen Carlson and Nathan Crary, Columbia River tennis, both won three-set matches at No. 1 and 2 singles against Union. Carlson won in a third-set tiebreaker, and Crary rallied from a set down.
• Riley Ellison, Evergreen golf, shot a 2-over par 38 on the front 9 at Green Mountain for medalist honors in a team win over Ridgefield.
