Community notebook: Local cyclocross races set for Alderbook Park

A series of cyclocross races returns to Clark County on Saturday for the Zaaldercross race at Alderbrook Park in Brush Prairie.

Racing begins at 8:40 a.m. with the race for beginner men. There are eight races featuring multiple age and ability levels. A-level riders race for one hour starting at 1:15 p.m.

For registration details and other information, visit cyclocross.gp. Alderbrook Park is at 24414 N.E. Westerholm Road.

The series was in Hood River, Ore., on Sept. 13. Elijah Smith of Vancouver won the race for beginner men. Hanna Hart of Washougal won the women’s B-level race.

Roller derby team seeks players

The Storm City Roller Girls, a flat-track roller derby team in Clark County, is holding an introduction to roller derby event at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Vancouver. The event takes place at Storm Shelter, 7503 NE 47th Ave.

To skate, women should bring wrist guards, elbow pads, knee pads, helmet, mouth guard and roller skates. Anyone who needs equipment should contact the team through its Facebook page. To learn more about roller derby, visit http://stormcityrollergirls.com.

Hunter Baseball tryouts continue

Hunter Baseball will hold a tryout for its 2015 summer baseball program from 5-7 p.m. today at the Vancouver Sports Facility, 11006 N.E. 37th Circle, No. 100.

Former major league baseball player Brian Hunter is a director and coach for Hunter Baseball, which will field teams from 10-and-younger through 18-and-younger. To learn more, visit the Hunter Baseball Facebook page.
