Improved possession, direction and distribution of the ball led to a fury of goals for the Camas girls soccer team Saturday, at Doc Harris Stadium.

The Papermakers overwhelmed Enumclaw 6-0 to complete a successful week. Camas (4-0) defeated Columbia River 2-1 Thursday and Prairie 3-0 Sept. 9.

Anyssa DeVera and Sarah Yang knocked in two corner kicks by Maddy Belzer in the first six minutes Saturday.

“It’s the best feeling to have everybody out there contributing,” DeVera said. “We all love each other and we’re out here for the same reason.”

Yang came back up the field with the ball on a breakaway and fired, but the Enumclaw goalkeeper made a diving deflection. Ellie Echeverio followed the play and chipped the ball into the open net to make it 3-0.

Morgan Winston netted the fourth goal in the first half. Head coach Roland Minder was pleased to see a steady attack.

“We were able to possess the ball more, play to feet and move it forward,” he said.

DeVera and Monica Coelho knocked in the fifth and sixth goals in the second half. Camas closed the seams on defense.

“It’s a sisterhood,” said center back Mason Minder. “We’ve always been a defensive team. We just have to stay strong and communicate.”

As goalkeepers Marie Matthews and Lauren Rood protect the net, they also shout instructions and words of encouragement. Their voices can be heard across the field.

“Lauren and Marie run the team,” Mason Minder said. “Whatever they say goes.”

Camas held off Columbia River Thursday, at Doc Harris Stadium. Fiona Samodurov fired in two goals for the Papermakers from long range.

The Chieftains trailed by a goal at halftime, and they could not get a ball in the net during the second half. Matthews made four saves for Camas and Rood stopped five shots.

The Papermakers shut out Prairie at the beginning of the week. DeVera netted two goals on assists by Mason Minder and Sabine Postma. Alyssa Tomasini had the final goal. Rood and Matthews each earned two saves.

After beginning league play on the road against Heritage today, Camas hosts Evergreen Thursday at Doc Harris Stadium. Kick off is at 7 p.m.

“From now on, it’s all about wins, points and improvement,” said coach Minder.
