Quite a swing in temperatures from day and night around the region the past couple of days. The very dry air mass with low humidity and dew points supported a rapid drop in overnight temperatures, especially outside of the windy and the main urban areas. Lows were in the 40- to 45-degree range, enough to see your breath by sunrise. Brrr.
With afternoon highs at 90 degrees, that made for a 45- to 50-temperature-degree spread. Impressive, I think.
At least that strong east wind has subsided, allowing the thermal trough of low pressure or heat low to develop along the coastal and western interior valleys. Hot weather was the rule even for the ocean beaches. Whenever it gets into the 80s at the beach, that is hot. Try and walk barefoot on the sand!
One more hot day at the beach today, and then a cooling trend there as the heat low moves inland and eventually east of the mountains. East side, it was mainly in the 70s for high temperatures, with a couple of 80-degree highs Saturday. The warmest high temperature I could find Saturday in the Evergreen State was right here in Vancouver. We’ll take the honors, don’t you think?
