A Thursday afternoon brush fire in Vancouver’s North Image neighborhood was caused by discarded cigarettes, according to the Vancouver Fire Marshal.
The fire at 5111 N.E. 131st Ave. was reported at 3:37 p.m. The Vancouver Fire Department quickly responded and put out the flames.
The fire destroyed part of a fence and caused damage to a 2014 Honda CRV, Fire Marshal Heidi Scarpelli said. The estimated damage from the fire was $20,000.
Scarpelli said that the fire agency went to several grass and brush fires throughout the day on Thursday.
“It is unusually dry and windy,” she said. “We need people to be extra cautious during this time.”
