Twice, Fiona Samodurov shot from long range.

Twice, the Camas midfielder saw the ball sail into the net.

Samodurov’s two goals lifted Camas over Columbia River 2-1 in a nonleague battle between two of the area’s best girls soccer programs Thursday.

Camas, a 4A quarterfinalist last season, took the lead roughly 30 minutes into the match. Samodurov’s shot from 20 yards sailed into the top of the net at Doc Harris Stadium.

Five minutes later, the junior struck again from nearly the same spot.

Less than two minutes after the second Camas goal, Ellie Walker cut into the lead for River.

The Chieftains only loss last season came in the first round of the 3A state tournament. They won the state title in 2012.
