Forest officials are monitoring a wildfire burning in a remote area of the Gifford Pinchot National Forest, according to the U.S. Forest Service.

The Goat Fire is located in an inaccessible section of the Goat Rocks Wilderness in the Cowlitz Valley Ranger District of the Gifford Pinchot forest. The fire was estimated at 6 acres as of Thursday afternoon.

The cause of the fire is unknown, but the area did see numerous lightning strikes in August, according to forest officials. The fire was reported on Sept. 7.

Fire crews are scouting the surrounding area for appropriate locations to build containment lines if needed, officials said, but there is no known threat to the public.
