The Portland Timbers and Portland Thorns last week announced a 10-year partnership with the Oregon Youth Soccer Association. As part of the agreement, the Timbers and Thorns will continue to provide staff and financial resources — and Timbers’ Stand Together community and field grants programs — to support youth soccer in Oregon and Southwest Washington, according to Timbers general manager Gavin Wilkinson.
Washington Timbers, the Portland Timbers affiliated youth soccer club in Southwest Washington, will continue to place teams in both OYSA and Washington Youth Soccer leagues.
“We play in both Washington and Oregon leagues, all of which qualify teams for either state cup,” Washington Timbers general manager Eli Ulvi said, noting that the arrangement provides “more options and ability to place teams in the right developmental environment.”
Local youth soccer players will continue to have the option of trying out for the Oregon/Timbers Olympic Development Program or for Washington Youth Soccer Elite Player Development.
Cyclocross again draws hundreds
For the second week in a row, almost 500 cyclists participated in a cyclocross event in Clark County.
The Het Meer cyclocross races on Saturday took place at Vancouver Lake Park.
An Oregon Bicycle Racing Association event, the Het Meer drew riders from across the metro area. Among the race winners were Karen Goritski of Camas in the race for women 45 and older and Hannah Hart of Washougal in the Women’s B classification.
This was the second race in a fall series that includes six race dates — four in Clark County. On Sept. 20 the Grand Prix Ryan Trebon series is at Alderbrook Park in Brush Prairie. On Sept. 27, the series is at the Washougal MX Park.
This week, the series is at Hood River, Ore., for racing on Saturday and Sunday. To register to race, or learn more about the series, visit cyclocross.gp.
