Two former grade school buddies have moved Doomsday Brewing Co. LLC, to Washougal.
Erik Cloe and Jake Walton are introducing two new beers this week — “Come at Me Bro” double IPA and “Green and Blue Brew” pale ale in their brewery and tap room.
The pale ale — named in honor of the Seattle Seahawks — is a collaboration with and is available at Big Al’s, 16615 S.E. 18th St., Vancouver.
Cloe and Walton met at the age of 10, when they were students at Capt. Strong Primary School, in Battle Ground.
They also attended the same middle school, and they were roommates after they graduated from Battle Ground High School in 2005.
Doomsday Brewing Co. was founded in September 2012, by Cloe and Walton.
They previously brewed beer in a shop on Walton’s property in Vancouver.
“We didn’t have a tap room and quickly outgrew our space,” Cloe said.
During the summer of 2013, they raised $5,000 for their business through a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign. The money was used to purchase kegs. Supporters received T-shirts, growlers and pint glasses.
Doomsday Brewing is now located in the former Rail Side Brewing, Ltd. site, in the Parker Landing complex. Railside has relocated to 309 N.E. 76th St., Vancouver.
Doomsday has a seven-barrel brew house with four fermenters. There is a grain room and keg storage, as well as a walk-in cooler.
Pint glasses, growlers (64 oz.), growlettes (32 oz.) and T-shirts, featuring Doomsday’s cityscape logo, are available to purchase. The logo features a man drinking while a bomb goes off over a cityscape.
Cloe and Walton, both 27, developed their company’s beer recipes and names, as well as the company’s logo.
“We came up with the name in December 2012 when the Mayan calendar was ending and we were all supposed to die,” Cloe said. “We didn’t die, and then the next extinction event — World War III or a comet — was going to happen.
“So we came up with doomsday is brewing,” he added. “Something is always around the corner that is going to kill us.”
The tap room includes a bar, picnic tables, two flat screen TVs, free wi-fi and an arcade game.
Cloe said a future remodel will make the space look more industrial, and a mural — featuring the company’s logo — will be placed above the fireplace.
All ages are welcome.
Walton described Doomsday Brewing Co. as a family business.
“Sometimes the wives run the tap room on Sundays,” he said.
Four styles of beer are available in 22 oz. bottles — Nuclear IPA, Redemption Red, Ender Vanilla Porter and Solar Flare Citrus Sweet.
“Beat Down Beet Wheat” won the first place award at the Spring Beer & Wine Festival, in Portland this year. It will be available next Spring.
Sometimes, Doomsday has a rotating guest tap, which features beer from other breweries.
Mountain Dew, Pepsi and Mug root beer and diet root beer, Xyience energy drinks and bottled water are available to purchase.
“Tax is included [in the price], because we like beer, not math,” Cloe said.
Complimentary popcorn and pretzels are available in the taproom.
The room also contains a job site warning sign, given to Cloe and Walton, by George Warta, son of the Parker Landing building owner John Warta.
Doomsday beer is available on tap at Orchard Hills Golf & Country Club, 605 39th St., Washougal; and several area bars, pubs and restaurants. Bottled versions are available to purchase at World Market and New Seasons Market, in Vancouver.
