1 Flights of fright
Ghoulish fun can be found under the wings of airplanes during the Aviation Harvest Party. Visitors can enjoy a display of the Red Baron’s DR1 plane, along with activities for children, including fishing for prizes, candy stations, glider building, open airplane cockpits and the flight simulator lab. 2 Halloween night
Let’s do the time warp again. “The Rocky Horror Picture Show,” rated R, is a cult classic film that mixes horror movie tropes with musical numbers. This special Halloween showing features the Denton Delinquents as the shadow cast performing along with the movie; audience participation is encouraged. There will also be a costume contest, with all ages welcome, though parental discretion is advised. The doors open at 11 p.m. Oct. 31 at the Kiggins Theatre, 1011 Main St., Vancouver. 3 Diving into soil
Author and soil expert Kristin Ohlson will talk about the hidden dynamics of soil and its potential to save our planet. She is the author of the book “The Soil Will Save Us.” Her work has appeared in the New York Times, the Smithsonian magazine and the anthology “Best American Science Writing 2011.” Ohlson will speak at 2 p.m. Nov. 1 at Vintage Books, 6613 E. 4 Violin master
Elmar Oliveira remains the only American violinist to win the gold medal at Moscow’s Tchaikovsky International Competition, in 1978. He will make his debut with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra as they perform “Violin Concerto” by Jean Sibelius. It was the only concert written by Sibelius and requires a high level of technical skill.
