NATIONAL OUTDOOR LEADERSHIP SCHOOL GRADUATE

Monika Rich of Vancouver recently completed a wilderness expedition in the Rocky Mountains with the National Outdoor Leadership School. Rich, her 11 coursemates and three instructors spent 28 days backpacking, and learning basic camping and travel techniques. They traveled through snow and rivers on a route that went over two mountain passes at 11,000 feet. After instructors deemed the students competent wilderness travelers, the course culminated in a five-day independent student expedition, with 100 miles of backcountry hiking.
