Skyview finishes strong against Evergreen

Things didn’t start out easy for Skyview on Friday at McKenzie Stadium.

But the only thing that mattered was how they finished.

Behind big games from running backs Josh Emmy and Blake Ingram, the Storm overcame a slow start to beat Evergreen 37-13.

The Plainsmen left no stone unturned on Friday, starting freshman quarterback Dustin Nettles against a Skyview team that will finish either second or third in the 4A Greater St. Helens League.

The Evergreen defense played inspired in the early going, forcing a three-and-out on the first drive.

After a Skyview field goal, Nettles marched the Plainsmen down the field before running it in from 8 yards out.

The upset didn’t seem too far out of reach for the Plainsmen early. But then Emmy got going on the ground en route to a team-high 96 yards rushing.

The Storm didn’t come roaring out of the locker room at halftime, either. But it was Emmy once again who took Skyview to paydirt near the end of the third quarter.

Penalties seemed to be the demise for the Plainsmen, as they have been all year. Drive after drive seemed to stall with Plainsmen penalties.

Evergreen had a chance to inject some drama into the finish with under 7 minutes left in Skyview territory. An interception on 4th down gave Skyview the ball on their own 15 before Blake Ingram ripped off an 80-yard touchdown to put the game away two plays later.

With the win, Skyview stays tied with Union, with a 4-1 record in league play.
