The city of Vancouver has been recognized by state and federal officials for its recent rebuild of a stretch of Northeast 137th/138th Avenue.
The project, completed in late 2013, earned the Director’s Award as part of the Awards of Excellence program by the Washington State Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration.
The city expanded the road between Northeast 28th and 49th streets. What was a two-lane rural road became an expanded corridor with roundabouts and new pedestrian and bicycle facilities. The project cost $12.2 million, according to the city.
About 13,000 vehicles per day use the 137th/138th Avenue corridor, a number expected to double by 2030, according to the city.
