Those wise readers who have been following The Columbian’s recommendations for how to vote in the November general election undoubtedly have learned something.
Well, ideally, they have learned a little about the candidates and the issues and have been presented with well-informed opinions, but they definitely have learned that these are merely recommendations and that we trust voters to examine the choices for themselves. We are certain that readers have learned this because we have included that mantra with each recommendation that has appeared in this space during the run-up to the Nov. 5 election.
These are not meaningless words. The Columbian’s Editorial Board has spent much time speaking with candidates and examining the issues to be voted upon; we have attempted to present thoughtful recommendations, but we recognize that equally thoughtful opinions might disagree with ours.
With that in mind, we present here a brief recap of our suggestions for the upcoming election. However, we also recommend that voters take the time to consider our reasoning behind decisions by reading our editorials. Sometimes we feel one candidate clearly is superior; other times there are two strong candidates worthy of consideration. We also suggest that voters should watch videos of the Editorial Board meetings with candidates. Those typically are attached to the editorial, or they can be found at www.columbian.com/news/opinion.
