Washougal schools participate in earthquake drill

Washougal — Students, teachers and staff at Washougal schools took part in the national Great ShakeOut earthquake drill last week by practicing the expert advice to “drop, cover and hold on.” At 10:16 a.m. Thursday, participants in Washougal, and millions around the country, learned how to do their best to avoid injury during an earthquake by dropping to their hands and knees, covering their heads and bodies under a sturdy surface and holding on to something stable until shaking stops. The Great ShakeOut originated in California but is now held across the country. More than 26 million people registered to take part in the annual earthquake drill this year, according to the ShakeOut organization’s website, www.shakeout.org.
