A Battle Ground man involved in a Friday-evening crash in the Orchards area died of an artery blockage, according to the Clark County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Christopher Steffen’s death was ruled natural and was caused by occlusive atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. The 62-year-old was driving a Ford F-150 north on state Highway 503 when the truck hit the back of a Ford Expedition that was stopped in the left turn lane at Northeast 71st Street, according to the Washington State Patrol. The Expedition was then pushed into a Ford Focus that also was stopped at the intersection.

A Clark County sheriff’s deputy performed CPR on Steffen. He was taken to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center, where he later died, the Washington State Patrol said.

No one else was injured in the crash. The State Patrol has not confirmed the cause of the collision.
