A man reportedly tried to rob a tanning salon Monday night in east Vancouver.

The incident was reported just before 9 p.m. at SunsUp Tanning Center at 2100 S.E. 164th Ave., a shopping center in the Cascade Highlands neighborhood that includes New Seasons Market. The man entered the salon without a weapon and demanded money from a female clerk, Vancouver police Officer Eric McCaleb said. She refused, and the man fled.

Officers and police dogs canvassed the area in search of a thin white man in his 20s. An employee at the nearby Big Al’s bowling alley called to report seeing a suspicious man who had gone into the bowling alley’s bathroom to change his clothes, McCaleb said.

Police responded to the bowling alley, identified the man as their attempted robbery suspect and arrested him, McCaleb said.

The suspect’s name was not released. He was booked into the Clark County Jail on suspicion of robbery, according to a press release from the Vancouver Police Department.
