Washougal — Washougal High School seniors got a first-hand look at a political rally during a recent field trip to an event on Oct. 8 featuring Vice President Joe Biden.

Students traveled to the Oregon Convention Center in Portland to attend the rally for U.S. Sen. Jeff Merkley, which included a speech by Biden. Some of the students were even able to snap selfies with Biden on their cell phones.

“This field trip was not about voting Democrat or Republican, but rather to get a feel for the campaign process and their techniques,” WHS teacher Jim Reed said in a press release. “The students were able to see firsthand how the campaigning process works.”
