Salvation Army is looking for two or three volunteers for its after-school Say Klub program, to tutor, read, help in the computer lab, oversee athletic activities, or play games. One or two volunteers are also needed to focus on reading literacy, 4 to 6 p.m. on Tuesdays.

Trauma Intervention Program, an organization of specially trained citizen volunteers, seeks people to assist victims, and their family and friends, in the first hours after a traumatic event or sudden loss. Extensive training and certification are provided.

Boomerang is looking for volunteers to assist customers and work with inventory in its retail store and people to prepare and serve coffee in the coffee shop.

Burnt Bridge Elementary is looking for lunch buddies, pen pals, tutors and art volunteers.

Water Resources Education Center seeks volunteers for its Second Saturday and other events, at the center and throughout the community. Volunteers will greet and orient patrons, lead or assist with hands-on activities and provide information about the center.

• The Camas School District is looking for individuals to serve on the district’s Student Health Advisory Council.

Committee members also serve as liaisons for a specific school building — elementary, middle or high school. Parents, teachers, and community members are encouraged to apply.

SHAC consists of about 20 school district stakeholders who advise school administrators and board members on a variety of health and fitness issues. There are meetings during the school year. Members serve three-year terms.

• Clark County seeks to fill a vacancy on the civil service commission for the sheriff’s office. The vacancy is for a six-year term beginning Jan. 1.

The five-member commission oversees certain employment and personnel matters. The primary focus is to ensure that pre-employment testing and hiring are fair, valid and non-discriminatory. The commission also presides over appeal hearings. Civil service commissioners are appointed by the county commissioners.

The commission meets monthly, or more often as needed, for two to four hours, typically during regular business hours.

Candidates must be U.S. citizens and registered to vote in Clark County. They must have lived in the county for at least two years and show an ability to balance interests of job applicants, current employees and the sheriff to ensure effective law enforcement services. Education and experience in personnel administration or law enforcement are highly valued.
