Community members are invited to attend the Clark County’s 13th annual Mayors’ & Civic Leaders’ Prayer Breakfast next week.

The breakfast, to be held at 7 a.m. Oct. 17 at the Hilton Vancouver Washington, 301 W. Sixth St., brings together civic leaders, public officials, business people and members of the public. Among the Clark County mayors will be Vancouver Mayor Tim Leavitt, chosen as the host mayor for the event.

The theme for this year’s breakfast is “Making Life’s Challenges — God’s Victories,” and will feature keynote speaker retired Lt. Gen. William G. “Jerry” Boykin.

Boykin is the executive vice president of the Family Research Council in Washington, D.C., and previously was the deputy undersecretary of defense of intelligence in the Pentagon. He clashed with Muslim warlord Osman Atto in Somalia and also authored a memoir “Never Surrender: A Soldier’s Journey to the Crossroads of Faith and Freedom.” He also is the founder and president of Kingdom Warriors, a nonprofit ministry that encourages Christians to be bold in their faith.

Three pastors from local churches and a Messianic Jew will offer prayers.

The event lasts until about 9 a.m. but will be followed by a 15-minute meet-and-greet with local leaders.

Advance tickets are $33 each or $300 for a table of 10 and can be purchased at www.clarkcountyprayerbreakfast.org. Tickets at the door can be purchased for $35 each.

James Autry, co-chair of the event, encouraged those who can’t attend to pay for the entry for a person in uniform who is planning to attend.

More information about the event can be found at the website or by calling 360-524-0982.
