The Washougal Panthers scored on their first play from scrimmage and scored a bunch more too, scoring a Class 2A Greater St. Helens League football victory Friday night.

Brandon Casteel had three touchdowns, Tristan Roseff got in the end zone two times, and the Panthers topped Hudson’s Bay 48-6 at Kiggins Bowl.

“The last two weeks, we came out a little slow, a little sluggish against some physical teams,” Casteel said. “We really needed to be a physical team, too. We took that to heart. We’re just now getting it back.”

The Panthers (3-3, 2-2 GSHL) got it back quickly, too.

Roseff broke free for a 55-yard touchdown run on the first play of the game.

Hudson’s Bay (1-5, 0-3) responded right away, though, going 77 yards on 12 plays. Cody Fiscus scored on a 2-yard TD run to tie the game at 6.

Washougal’s defense made the necessary adjustments, though, and the Eagles never scored again.

Casteel put the Panthers up for good on a 27-yard touchdown pass from Kyron Carlson.

The Panthers scored three second-quarter touchdowns. Casteel had a 13-yard run, Roseff scored on a 1-yard run, and then Casteel caught a 22-yard TD pass from Monte Georgianna.

Carlson found Spencer Adams for a TD pass in the third quarter, then Georgianna scored on a 2-yard keeper to force the game into a running clock.

Fiscus led the Eagles with 55 yards rushing. Nehemiah McDougal had a strong opening drive but was injured. He returned for only two more carries, finishing with 45 yards for Bay.

Roseff had two of Washougal’s three interceptions. Casteel had the other one.
