Two second-half touchdowns from Talib Meeks and a determined red zone defense lifted the Rockets over the Cougars in a 1A Trico League game at Doc Harris Stadium in Camas.
Meeks, who finished with 125 rushing yards, scored his first touchdown on a third-down screen pass that covered 30 yards on the first possession of the second half. He added a 23-yard touchdown run with 3:58 left in the game.
A long kickoff return by Seton’s Emil Chan then put the Cougars at the Castle Rock 27-yard line. Seton Catholic (1-4, 0-2 Trico) converted one fourth down before the Rockets (2-4, 1-1) took over on downs with 35 seconds left in the game.
It was a fitting ending on a night when Seton four times had the ball inside the Castle Rock 5-yard line but scored no points from those opportunities.
