Coho are providing opportunity at their usual October locations, including the mouth of the Cowlitz River and Lady Island in the lower Columbia plus in the North Fork of the Lewis and Cowlitz rivers.
Bank anglers still are catching coho off the Columbia River north jetty.
Buoy 10 is not over yet either. Oregon officials monitored the Buoy 10 area on Saturday and estimate 452 anglers with 410 coho kept and 57 released — amazing numbers for the first week of October.
Most of the boaters in the Cowlitz are getting their coho downstream of Interstate 5.
Drano Lake is closed to all fishing from 6 p.m. Tuesdays to 6 p.m. Wednesdays this month.
Swift Reservoir is providing excellent catches of 12-inch rainbow trout. Two dozen boats were trolling on Saturday between the boat ramp and the mouth of Drift Creek at the upper end of the reservoir. Try trolling with about 1.5 ounces at 25 to 30 “pulls” of line.
The reservoir is only 14 feet below full pool, so launching is not a problem.
