Austen Johnson scored five touchdowns and rushed for 160 yards as the Hawks remained unbeaten Friday at Kiggins Bowl.

Hockinson (5-0, 2-0) showed why it’s ranked No. 5 in the latest Associated Press Class 2A statewide poll. The Hawks have outscored opponents 224-3 this season, allowing only a field goal in their season opener.

At 5-foot-9, 165 pounds, Johnson has played bigger than his size. His 13 rushing touchdowns are the most by any player in Southwest Washington.

“The key to our rushing attack is us backs knowing what our linemen are going to do,” Johnson said. “The linemen, in turn, know what we’re going to do. We talk about what reads we’re going to make pre-game.”

The Hawks gained 405 yards Friday, including 349 on the ground. They held Hudson’s Bay to 23 yards of offense in the first half.

Johnson gained his 160 yards on only 14 carries, an average of 11.4 per rush.

Tommy Harshaw added 116 yards and two touchdowns, including a 47-yard TD that gave Hockinson a 21-0 first-quarter lead.

Hudson’s Bay fell to 1-4 on the season and 0-2 in the Class 2A Greater St. Helens League.
