Weather Eye: Perfect fall weather is heading our way for weekend

I could just repeat my column from Tuesday and we would be good. The forecast went as planned with a brief shot of rain and then a few showers scattered about on Tuesday. Skies cleared slowly on Wednesday and this morning was expected to be perhaps the coldest this season.

The rest of the week and through the weekend looks just as we mentioned here on Tuesday — fair and mostly sunny. Highs in the mid-70s with maybe some light east winds. Perfect autumn weather. Work outside, play or just relax and watch the hazy daylight turn into darkness. Rest your weary souls under the peace and tranquility of the awesome fall weather.

The river of moisture mentioned will be to our northwest, with heavy rain moving into Northwest Washington and British Columbia. There is always a chance it could slide further south but it is not expected to affect us other than maybe some high clouds.

Portland tied its 1994 warmest September on record following on the heels of the warmest August. Any complaints?

Now that we are well into fall, I have noticed many holly trees loaded with bright red berries. Also, the Douglas firs are loaded with fir cones. Signs of a nasty winter? Our government thinks it will be warmer and drier than normal. Some almanacs are calling for the opposite. Chilly and maybe not so wet.

Other weather experts will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 25 at OMSI for the annual winter weather conference hosted by the Oregon Chapter of the American Meteorological Society. Mark your calendars, the public is invited to this always interesting and fun event. Check out its website at http://oregonams.wordpress.com.

The deciduous trees continue to transition from a summer green to a familiar autumn blaze, some quicker than others. Spider webs are everywhere and with early morning dew the next few days, it will make for an interesting eerie sight. Must be getting close to Halloween?
