LONG BEACH — Razor clam season on the Long Beach Peninsula will begin Tuesday with six straight nights of digging.

The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife announced Thursday that marine toxin tests indicate the clams are safe to eat.

Low tides will be: Tuesday, 6:26 p.m., -0.5 feet; Wednesday, 7:13 p.m., -0.9 feet; Thursday, 7:58 p.m., -1.1 feet; Oct. 10, 8:43 p.m., -1.1 feet; Oct. 11, 9:28 p.m., -0.8 feet and Oct. 12, 10:15 p.m., -0.3 feet.

“Low tides will occur fairly late in the day, so diggers should be prepared to dig in the dark,” said Dan Ayres, coastal shellfish manager.

The state tentatively has scheduled another set of diggings beginning Oct. 22, pending future toxin tests.

Diggers age 15 and older must have an applicable 2014-15 license to harvest razor clams. Licenses, ranging from a three-day razor clam license to an annual combination fishing license, are available online at https://fishhunt.dfw.wa.gov.

A three-day clam license costs $8.60.

Diggers can take 15 razor clams daily and must keep the first 15 dug. Each digger’s clams must be in a separate container.

Twin Harbors beach also will be open all six days. Mocrocks will be open Oct. 10 to 12. Copalis will be open Oct. 11.
