Jeanne Stewart was sworn in Tuesday as Clark County commissioner for District 3.

Stewart, a former member of the Vancouver City Council, replaces Ed Barnes, who served half a year as an appointed commissioner. In June, commissioners David Madore and Tom Mielke appointed Barnes to replace former Commissioner Steve Stuart, who had resigned and became city manager of Ridgefield.

In the general election, Stewart, a Republican, defeated Democrat Craig Pridemore, a former state legislator and county commissioner. Stewart’s swearing-in corresponded to the election results’ being certified by the auditor’s office.

Because her swearing-in was in the afternoon, she did not sit in on Tuesday’s commission meeting. Her first commissioner meeting will be Dec. 2.

County officials recently elected to terms that begin in January will be sworn in later. Stewart also will have a second swearing-in for a new four-year term in 2015.
