Vancouver’s community Christmas tree lighting will be 3 to 6:30 p.m. Friday at Esther Short Park, 605 Esther St.

The lights will be turned on following the arrival of Santa Claus, who is scheduled to greet the crowd at 6 p.m.

The free event features music and Farmers Market food vendors. It is sponsored by the Vancouver Rotary Foundation, Waste Connections and the city of Vancouver.

If you want to stay warm and gaze at more creatively decorated holiday trees, the Rotary Foundation’s Festival of Trees will be open 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at the Hilton Vancouver Washington, across Sixth Street from the park.

Admission to the Festival of Trees is free, with a suggested $5 donation. The festival will also be open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday.
