EUGENE, Ore. — Joseph Young shook off a sluggish first half to score 22 points and Jalil Abdul-Bassit added 17 as Oregon pulled away for an 83-66 victory over Detroit on Monday night.
Young, who finished just 1-for-12 from 3-point range, went for 18 points in the second half. After being tied at 35 at the half, the Ducks (2-0) took the lead for good at 48-45 on Abdul-Bassit’s 3-pointer with 15 minutes to play and outscored the Titans (1-1) 35-21 the rest of the way.
Dillon Brooks added 14 points for Oregon and Elgin Cook had 10. Cook’s dunk with 17 seconds left gave Oregon its final points and its largest lead of the game.
Juwan Howard Jr. led Detroit with 16 points. Jarrod Williams added 15 points and Anton Wilson had 14.
