1 Voices rise

Clark College will host regional middle school and high school choirs Nov. 14 as they showcase their talents for the Fall Choral Festival. Chamber and concert choirs will perform from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., followed by the vocal jazz ensembles performing from 1 to 5:40 p.m. An evening showcase performance at 7 p.m. will highlight the top four groups selected from the morning and afternoon along with the Clark College Women’s Choral Ensemble and Concert Choir. The festival takes place at Gaiser Hall, 1933 Fort Vancouver Way, Vancouver. General admission is $5, and free for ages 12 and younger. 2 Hot jazz

Specializing in early American jazz from the 1920s to the 1940s, the Shanghai Woolies aim to bring the look and sound of hot jazz to a modern audience of all ages. The Portland ensemble was created by Pink Martini trumpeter Gavin Bondy, and the group performs music by Louis Armstrong, Artie Shaw, Duke Ellington and the Boswell Sisters. The Shanghai Woolies will perform at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 15 at the Old Liberty Theater, 115 N. Main Ave., Ridgefield. Tickets are $15, and $10 for ages 13 and younger. 3 Dance fighting

TopShakeDance will present “a-Bout,” a dance theater performance inspired by boxing, wrestling, roller derby and mixed martial arts as four dancers and one dummy face off. The performance begins at 8 p.m. Nov. 14-16 and 21-23 at the AWOL Dance Collective studio, 2303 N. Randolph Ave., Portland. Tickets are $15 to $20. Visit www.topshakedance.com

4 Love and cake

It’s an evening of “Cakespeare,” as Fort Vancouver High School’s theater and culinary students team up for “Much Ado About Nothing.” The Bard’s classic comedy will be presented as dessert theater, with coffee and confections, along with a dance performance intermission. The performance follows Benedick and Beatrice, who are tricked into confessing their love for each other. The show begins at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 14-15 at the McLoughlin Middle School Auditorium, 5802 MacArthur Blvd., Vancouver. Admission is $10. Call 360-313-4000 or visit fort.vansd.org.

5 Talented musicians

The Portland Youth Philharmonic’s ensembles will perform their annual Prelude concert as part of the philharmonic’s 91st season, and the concert will include Tchaikovsky’s “Francesca da Rimini.” This will be the first of three concerts held at Skyview High School Auditorium, 1300 N.W. 139th St., Vancouver. The Conservatory Orchestra, Wind Ensemble and Youth String Ensemble will perform at 4 p.m. Nov. 16, featuring musicians from ages 7 to 23, and representing more than 100 different schools.
