The Hockinson girls soccer team scored two second-half goals, including the game-winner with 10 minutes left to beat North Kitsap 2-1 in a Class 2A state playoff game in Poulsbo on Tuesday.
With the win, the Hawks advance to play the winner of today’s Olympic-Squalicum game, likely on Saturday. Hockinson will be on the road, regardless of which team wins Wednesday.
The Hawks have advanced to the 2A state tournament every year since 2006, but this is only the second time they’ve reached the state quarterfinals.
North Kitsap took the early lead by scoring in the first two minutes of the match.
The Wolves held onto that 1-0 lead until Hockinson evened the score with a goal with 16 minutes left to play on a goal by Trinity Paulsen
Hockinson followed with the go-ahead goal with 10 minutes to play by Sydnie Cole-Vogler.
On the winning goalk, the North Kitsap defense made two bad clearances, giving Hockinson’s Rylee Seekins an opportunity to get on the ball and get a shot off on her own close to the near post.
North Kitsap goalkeeper Chloe Whitbeck deflected it, but no one was in the box to keep senior defender Sydney Cole-Vogler from crashing in and knocking the ball in for the eventual game winner.
